Arlene Dávila, Professor of Anthropology at New York University, "Making LatinX Art: Markets and The Profitable Vagueness of Latinx & Latin American Art"

Tuesday, May 16, 2017
4:30pm – 5:30pm
Carpenter Hall 13
Intended Audience(s): Public
Categories: Arts, Lectures & Seminars

This lecture will address how the political economy of the contemporary art market shapes, and differentially impacts, the making of Latinx and Latin American art.  In particular, Dávila focuses on the trials of contemporary Latinx women artists as they maneuver through the growing contradictions presented by the globalization and growing popularity of Latinx and Latin American art, and the vagueness between these categories on which their profitability is often based.

Pre-lecture refreshments will be served from 4:00-4:30 p.m.
