A pre-registration meeting to discuss an upcoming letterpress workshop to hand typeset and print a specimen page of a contemporary polyglot bible using movable metal type.
In the beginning . . . . The Letterpress Intensive workshop is offering an opportunity to learn about fine letterpress printing by participating in the collaborative production of a specimen page of a contemporary polyglot bible in four languages. Participants will learn to handset and print text from the bible using movable metal type. Students with knowledge of Latin, classic Greek, or Hebrew are especially encouraged to participate. No letterpress experience or classical language knowledge is required and participants will receive intensive hands-on instruction in the nuances of traditional fine book typography and printing.
An open introductory/informational meeting will be held Sunday, April 5, from 2 to 3 pm in room 21 of Baker Library. At the end of the session, attendees will have the opportunity to decide if they would like to register to participate in the workshop. Subsequent sessions will be held on Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5 pm through the term. Faculty and staff are welcome to attend with students given priority for participation. All materials and equipment will be provided by the workshop. Anyone interested in more information should contact Won.K.Chung @ Dartmouth.edu.
Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
