Seher Agarwala

Seher Agarwala's scholarship focuses on Islamic visual and reading cultures, particularly premodern Persian manuscripts produced for and in South Asia. Her research and teaching interests include the wider Islamic world, pre-modern libraries and collecting practices, and Persian literature and reception of non-Islamic art and architecture. erHer Her current research project builds on her dissertation, "Reading Paintings, Visualizing Texts: Image, Imagination, and Ethics in Sixteenth-century Golconda," which investigates the transformative power of painted manuals of moral comportment, which circulated across Central and South Asia from the twelfth till the nineteenth century.
